Not entirely serious

Schleusisch – the language of the lock

Where Low German, the harbour and life on the job site meet, a language of its own is born. Well, not quite: we made Schleusisch up. Complete with its own script, a little dictionary and a translator.

Moinök! Dü Montöör heff Fieröövend inn dü Huusö.

„Hello! The fitter has finished work for the day at the house.“

Schleusisch is entirely made up and not a real language, and it is not Low German either. For anything serious, just write to us in English or German.

The lock translator

Type a sentence in English or German. Known words come from the dictionary, everything else is rebuilt according to the rules of the lock.

In wave script

The wave script

Every letter is made of a post, an anchor or a buoy, topped with a wave, a dot or a bar. Perfect for lock gates and fish-roll stalls.
